Unusual plants. Real cultivation. Botanical discovery.
I'm Stephen, the grower behind Traphouse Nursery in Palm Coast, Florida. I grow unusual plants, work on propagation, and keep records of what happens along the way.
The collection brings together carnivorous plants, distinctive bulbs and geophytes, tropical species, Florida natives, and plants with a history of human use. This is where I share the plants, the questions, and the work behind them.
A collection worth paying attention to
A flytrap cultivar, a dormant rhizome, or a tiny waterlily can lead to a much bigger question. How does it grow? What changes when the light, water or season changes? Can I propagate it while keeping its identity and history intact?
Those questions guide what I grow and what I document. The collection is a place to observe carefully, try things, and keep learning.
What I'm working on
Carnivorous plants
Maintaining named Dionaea accessions and developing the collection for careful propagation and future breeding work.
Cultivation journals
Following two separately tracked Nymphaea thermarum plants, Siphonochilus emergence and seasonal growth, and Impatiens pollination work.
Ethnobotany and fieldwork
Learning how plant biology, traditional knowledge and habitat fit together, with clear sources and room for unanswered questions.
From the research journal
Sixteen seeds. Sixteen permanent identities. One experiment to follow.
Our intended Impatiens cross brings together a female I. auricoma and pollen from I. tuberosa. Sixteen seeds recovered from one capsule were sown in sixteen individually labeled pots on October 22, 2026.
The cohort is IMP-AURxTUB-2026-01. These are putative F1 offspring: seed recovery and sowing are documented; viability and hybrid parentage still need to be established.
Follow the project from the parent plants to the growing enclosure, then watch what develops.
